The benefits of monoi for hair

Posted on: 14/04/2019 | Categories: The benefits of Monoï

A beauty routine for your hair is important. Thanks to monoi, you'll achieve surprising results in no time, whatever your hair type. Here's how.

Why apply monoï to my hair?

Monoï is reputed to be highly protective and moisturizing for damaged or dull hair. This is partly due to the coconut oil it contains. Indeed, the beneficial virtues of this substance are well established.

If you've ever seen the beautiful manes of Tahitian women, you'll quickly realize that monoi is a great asset in the face of sun, wind and salt. It's rich in omega-6 and omega-9. It also contains terpene alcohols and esters (methyl salicylate). In short, it's a truly beneficial cocktail for hair.

Monoï strengthens fibers by fortifying them. It also tones fine hair. Coconut oil's antiseptic properties will neutralize even the greasiest scalps. It leaves a protective film that prevents the scalp from feeling aggressed and therefore from secreting excessive sebum or forming dandruff. Another strong point is that it softens rough hair and tames flyaways. In other words, don't be afraid to let your curly mane go au naturel, as monoï will help form perfect curls by eliminating frizz.

Another advantage is that monoï smells deliciously of vacations! If you're a fan of natural products, it's also great for scenting your scalp after a mask or coating your ends.

How do I apply monoï to my hair?

Good news: whether you have curly, fine, thick, oily, dry, normal, brown, white, blond or red hair, you can add monoï to your your hair routine. Its oily texture doesn't leave a film on the hair, nor does it weigh it down.

To use monoï as a mask, we strongly recommend that you leave it on overnight, once a week, with your hair wrapped in a towel. As the oil is photosensitive, it's best to avoid exposure to the sun with a monoi mask on your hair. This could have the opposite effect. The mask is applied to the entire length of the hair. In the morning, simply wash your hair as usual and you'll notice that it's shiny, soft and smells delicious! Note that it may take several shampoos to remove all the monoi.

Monoi works wonders on curly and thick hair. It tames curls to perfection and lightens thick hair. Don't hesitate to use dabs of monoï to put frizz back in its place or correct a spike.

For fine hair, on the other hand, use sparingly. Although very beneficial, monoï can quickly "stick" your hair to your skull and make you look like a Playmobil. Better to use a spray to coat the lengths. This will add shine and intense hydration to damaged ends.

Using monoi as a pre-summer hair treatment will protect and fortify your hair before summer aggressions (chlorine, sun, sea, sand, wind, etc.). Prolonging the treatment in the off-season will help repair the hair.
