Does monoi lighten hair?

Posted on: 14/09/2022 | Categories: The benefits of Monoï

A veritable hymn to vacations, monoi oil has many benefits, not least for your hair! Soft and shiny, this precious oil also deeply nourishes your hair. But does monoi actually lighten your hair? We explain it all here.

The benefits of monoi for your hair

As a rich, natural plant oil, monoï can be used monoï can be used on the skin as well as the hair. In fact, its virtues are not to be underestimated. Vahines coat their hair with monoï to protect and moisturize it. It adds shine and nourishes the hair throughout its entire length.

It is recommended for use after sunbathing, or as a mask to be left on for a few hours or overnight for optimum effect. Monoi oil also protects hair from external aggressors such as wind, sand and saltwater.

What about using monoi to lighten hair?

Simply put, monoi oil doesn't actually lighten hair. However, if you coat your hair with this oil to go out in the sun, you can accelerate the natural sun-related discoloration. In other words, the oil, under the effect of the sun, can help lighten your hair.

Some women use monoi as a lightener to achieve a natural balayage during summer vacations. Beware, however, that this includes premature deterioration of your hair fiber, which can "burn" due to the reverberation of the sun's rays. We therefore strongly advise against using monoi oil on your hair if you're going to be out in the sun or spending a day at the beach, for example.

If you still want to achieve natural color, monoi oil should not be used more than twice a week for a very short time. Don't forget to moisturize your hair after this type of bleaching. A chamomile mask can also help prolong the bleaching effects of the sun, for example.
