Important information: The photos are for illustrative purposes only. Each sarong is entirely handmade in Tahiti using traditional artisanal methods. The piece you receive will feature the same dominant colors, the same style, and the same patterns as the one shown in the photo, but their arrangement, intensity, or certain details may vary slightly. These variations are part of the charm of a handcrafted creation and ensure that each pareo is a one-of-a-kind piece.

HANDCRAFTED

Each pareo from the Papeete Market is crafted in Tahiti using the traditional tie-dye technique, known in French as “teinture par nouage.” The fabric is first hand-dyed to create its magnificent color gradients. Stencils are then placed on the fabric before it is exposed to the sun. The areas covered by the stencils gradually lighten, while the areas exposed to the sun retain their color, revealing the patterns that make each creation completely unique.

This traditional method is still used by many Polynesian families. They also use fern leaves, coconut palm leaves, plants from their gardens, or even fishing nets to create original, natural designs.

The dye used is made in Moorea. Solvent-free, it produces vibrant, luminous colors that are particularly lightfast. Your pareo will retain its full intensity for a long time without fading.

Since each piece is made entirely by hand, you may notice slight irregularities, subtle variations in shade, small plant residues, or a few loose threads. These characteristics are a testament to the genuine craftsmanship of a Polynesian family in Tahiti and are what give this authentic local pareo its unique charm—a far cry from mass-produced items.

CARE

The cotton fabric may feel slightly stiffer upon receipt due to the artisanal dyeing process. After the first cold wash, it will naturally regain its full suppleness and soft feel.

It is recommended to wash it separately the first time to prevent color transfer to other garments. Subsequent washes can also be done in cold water to preserve the vibrancy of the colors over time.

STYLING TIPS

Measuring approximately 110 x 175 cm, this pareo can easily be worn around the waist, as a light dress, as a shawl, or draped over the shoulders on summer evenings. Its breathable cotton fabric, warm colors, and large tropical flowers will add an elegant Polynesian touch to all your summer outfits.
