Full description for Papeete Market Pareo Pink and Red Hibiscus

You’ll fall in love with this sarong from the Papeete Market, featuring delicate shades of pink and red and adorned with stunning hibiscus flowers and tropical foliage. Handmade in Tahiti from cotton voile, each piece is unique and identical to those found at the famous Papeete Market.

This handcrafted sarong captivates with its gorgeous gradient of soft pink, fuchsia, and coral red, enhanced by large hibiscus motifs—the iconic flower of the Pacific Islands—paired with exotic foliage. Its floral design evokes the lush gardens of Tahiti and adds a touch of softness, femininity, and a sense of escape. Made of cotton voile, it measures approximately 110 x 175 cm—an ideal size for wearing in a variety of ways throughout the year.

Important information: The photos are for illustrative purposes only. Each sarong is entirely handmade in Tahiti using traditional artisanal methods. The pareo you receive will feature the same dominant colors, the same style, and the same patterns as the one shown in the photo, but their arrangement, intensity, or certain details may vary slightly . These variations are part of the charm of a handcrafted creation and ensure that each pareo is a one-of-a-kind piece.

HANDCRAFTED

Each pareo from the Papeete Market is crafted in Tahiti using the traditional tie-dye technique, known in French as “teinture par nouage.” The fabric is first hand-dyed to achieve its luminous color gradients. Stencils are then placed on the fabric before it is exposed to the sun. The areas covered by the stencils gradually lighten, while the areas exposed to the sun retain their color, revealing the magnificent floral patterns that make each creation unique.

This artisanal method is still used by many Polynesian families. They also use fern leaves, coconut palm fronds, various foliage from their gardens, and even fishing nets to create unique natural designs.

The dye used is made in Moorea. Solvent-free, it produces vibrant, luminous colors that are lightfast. Your pareo will retain its beauty for years to come without losing the intensity of its colors.

Since each piece is handmade, slight irregularities, slight variations in shade, small plant residues, or a few loose threads may be present. These details are a testament to the genuine craftsmanship of a Polynesian family in Tahiti and set this pareo apart from mass-produced, industrial items.

CARE INSTRUCTIONS

The cotton fabric may feel slightly stiffer upon arrival due to the artisanal dyeing process. After an initial cold wash, it will quickly regain its softness and suppleness.

It is recommended to wash it separately the first time to prevent color transfer to other fabrics. Subsequent washes can also be done in cold water to preserve the vibrancy of the colors over time.

STYLING TIPS

Measuring approximately 110 x 175 cm, this sarong adapts to any look you desire. Wear it around your waist, as a beach dress, as a light shawl over your shoulders, or use it as a beach wrap during your days in the sun. Its breathable cotton fabric, warm hues, and hibiscus patterns make it an essential accessory to add an elegant touch of Polynesia to your summer.
