Full description for Papeete Market Pareo Blue and green Tropical Paradise

Escape to the tropics with this pareo from the Papeete Market, featuring gorgeous shades of blue and green and adorned with large exotic leaves, tropical flowers, and patterns inspired by Polynesian nature. Entirely handmade in Tahiti from cotton voile, each pareo is a one-of-a-kind creation, similar to those found at the famous Papeete Market.

A true invitation to travel, this “Paradis Tropical” sarong celebrates the richness of Tahitian nature. Its shades of lagoon blue and emerald greenhighlight a design featuring large tropical leaves, exotic flowers, and botanical motifs that evoke the lush gardens of Polynesia. Made of cotton voile, it measures approximately 110 x 175 cm—a generous size that allows you to wear it as a sarong, beach dress, stole, or shawl.

Important information: The photos are for illustrative purposes only. Each sarong is entirely handmade in Tahiti using traditional artisanal methods. The piece you receive will feature the same dominant colors, the same style, and the same patterns as the one shown in the photo, but their arrangement, intensity, or certain details may vary slightly. These variations are part of the charm of a handcrafted creation and ensure that each sarong is a one-of-a-kind piece.

HANDCRAFTED

Each pareo from the Papeete Market is made in Tahiti using the traditional tie-dye technique, known in French as “teinture par nouage.” The fabric is first hand-dyed to create its stunning color gradients. Stencils are then placed on the fabric before it is exposed to the sun. The areas covered by the stencils gradually lighten, while the areas exposed to the sun retain their color, revealing the patterns that give each pareo its unique character.

This artisanal method is still used today by many Polynesian families. They also use fern leaves, coconut palm fronds, various foliage from their gardens, and even fishing nets to create unique natural effects. The dye, made in Moorea, is solvent-free. It produces vibrant, luminous, and lightfast colors, ensuring that the pareo retains its beauty for years to come.

Since each piece is made entirely by hand, slight irregularities, minor variations in shade, or traces of plant fibers or threads may be present. These characteristics are a testament to genuine artisanal craftsmanship and make each pareo an authentic creation, a far cry from mass-produced industrial goods.

CARE INSTRUCTIONS

The cotton fabric may feel slightly stiffer upon arrival due to the artisanal dyeing process. After an initial cold wash, it naturally regains its full softness and becomes soft and comfortable to wear.

For the first wash, we recommend washing the sarong separately to prevent color transfer onto other garments. Subsequent washes can be done in cold water to preserve the vibrancy of the colors over time.

STYLING TIPS

Measuring approximately 110 x 175 cm, this pareo offers many styling options. It can be worn around the waist, transformed into a beach dress, tied over the shoulders as a shawl, or used as a lightweight wrap. Its breathable cotton fabric makes it an ideal companion for the beach, the pool, vacations, or sunny days, while adding an authentic touch inspired by Tahiti.
