Full description for Papeete Market Pareo Blue and green Tahiti Garden

Let yourself be charmed by this sarong from the Papeete Market, featuring delicate shades of blue and green, enhanced by a design of tiare flowers, tropical foliage, and lush vegetation. Made entirely by hand in Tahiti from cotton voile, each piece is unique and identical to those found on the stalls of the famous Papeete Market.

Inspired by the tropical gardens of Tahiti, this "Jardin de Tahiti" pareo combines luminous shades of lagoon blue and plant green with magnificent floral and leafy patterns. The iconic tiare flowers of Polynesia intertwine with the foliage to create a natural, soft, and elegant design. Made of cotton voile, it measures approximately 110 x 175 cm—an ideal size to wear as a pareo, beach dress, stole, or shawl.

Important information: Photosare for illustrative purposes only. Each sarong is entirely handmade in Tahiti using traditional artisanal methods. The piece you receive will feature the same dominant colors, the same style, and the same patterns as the one shown in the photo, but their arrangement, intensity, or certain details may vary slightly. These variations are part of the charm of a handcrafted creation and ensure that each pareo is a one-of-a-kind piece .

HANDCRAFTED

Each pareo from the Papeete Market is crafted in Tahiti using the traditional tie-dye technique, known in French as “teinture par nouage.” The fabric is first hand-dyed to create its color gradients. Stencils are then placed on the fabric before it is exposed to the sun. The areas covered by the stencils gradually lighten, while the areas exposed to the sun retain their color, revealing the floral and botanical patterns that make each creation unique.

This artisanal technique is still widely practiced by many Polynesian families. They also use fern leaves, coconut palm fronds, various foliage from their gardens, and even fishing nets to create unique natural effects. The dye used is made in Moorea. Solvent-free, it produces vibrant, luminous colors that are particularly lightfast, ensuring that the pareo will not fade over time.

Since each piece is handmade, slight irregularities, minor variations in shade, or small traces of plant fibers or threads may be present. These details are a sign of genuine craftsmanship, created by a Polynesian family in Tahiti, rather than mass-produced industrial manufacturing.

CARE INSTRUCTIONS

The cotton fabric may feel slightly stiffer when you first receive it due to the artisanal dyeing process. After the first cold wash, the fabric regains its full suppleness and becomes soft and pleasant to the touch.

For the first wash, we recommend washing the pareo separately to prevent color transfer onto other garments. Subsequent washes can be done in cold water to preserve the vibrancy of the colors over time.

STYLING TIPS

Its breathable cotton fabric and handcrafted design make it an essential accessory for vacations, sunny days, and summer evenings.
